   New Year Boost for Camden

Glenda has welcomed the announcement by Labour Housing Minister John Healey of £3.6 million for Camden to support the construction of 63 new homes in the Borough.

Glenda said:

"I'm delighted to hear of this major investment in housing and job creation in Camden by the Labour Government.

"I have long been urging ministers to use the power of government to build more affordable homes, and invest in maintaining diverse communities in Camden. With over 18,000 people now on the waiting list in Camden the need for more council housing is clear.

"Sadly, this new investment is unlikely to expand the existing stock of Council housing in Camden, since while Labour are providing funds to enable new houses to be built, the Lib Dem / Tory Council are continuing to sell off Council houses to the highest bidder.

"The contrast could scarcely be starker. A Labour government that is building new social housing and a Lib Dem / Conservative Council that is selling it off to speculators."
