   Local Neighbourhood Watch groups praised

Neighbourhood WatchA recent research review called Engaging Communities in Fighting Crime has recognised the vital role that Nieghbourhood Watch co-ordinators and other residents' leaders play in their community. The report acknowledges that local resident leaders such play an important part in reducing crime and increasing awareness of reducing crime.

We have always believed that the community can pull together to fight crime, and so we are delighted that Neighbourhood Crime and Justice Group section of the Home Office are doing more to help local community groups.

As part of their acknowledgement of community groups, the Home Office have produced an information pack for Neighbourhood and Home Watch Co-ordinators and residents leaders. We have several of these packs in the office, and if you are interested, please contact us and we can send you one.

The pack outlines several pledges from the Police on how they are going to assist citizens and locals, namely:

  • To answer all non-emergency calls promptly. If attendance is needed or if you are vulerable or upset, send a patrol within 60 minutes. Likewise, if you are calling about an issue that we agree affect your community, we will be there within 60 minutes.
  • To respond to every message directed to your Nighbourhood Policing Team within 24 hours, and where necessary, provide a more detailed response as soon as we can.
  • To arrange and attend regular public meetings to agree your priorities at least once a month, giving local a chance to meet your local team and other members of your community.

Please do get in touch for your free pack outlining these pledges in more detail.
