The end of July marked one year to go until the opening of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
There are several ways in which Hampstead & Kilburn can benefit from and be part of what happens next year.
- Nominate Someone to Carry the Torch! 8000 heroes will be carrying the torch which arrives on 18th May 2012. Go to www.london2012.com/games/olympic-torch-relay/presenting-partners/.
- Take part in the evening celebrations which are being organised on the route of the Olympic Torch at Waltham Forest -Sat 21 July, Bexley -Sun 22 July, Wandsworth -Mon 23 July, Ealing -Tues 24 July, Haringey -Weds 25 July, Westminster -Thu 26 July, Opening Ceremony, Olympic Stadium -Fri 27 July.
- Support School Games at Your Local Schools. The School Games programme aims to boost school sport and to create a year-round calendar of competition for pupils of all abilities. The first ever national finals will be held at the Olympic Park in May 2012. St Eugene de Mazenod Roman Catholic Primary School, Malorees Infant School, Kensal Rise Primary School, Malorees Junior School, and The Kilburn Park School Foundation have all signed up for this programme.
- Get other schools to register for School Games: www.yourschoolgames.com/RegisterYourSchool.aspx.
- Get Free Tickets for Schools and Colleges. Schools that apply to be part of the 'Get Set' Network by Friday 16 December 2011 have the chance to get free tickets to the Games. Encourage your school to apply at the following link: www.london2012.com/getset.
