Glenda spoke up in parliament yesterday on behalf of her constituents to ascertain exactly what “confidence measures” would be put in place to reassure residents of properties above tunnels.
Justine Greening MP explained in her statement that there would be a package of compensation in place “over and above those that affected homeowners are already entitled to under law”.
She went on “Homeowners will be offered before and after surveys, a thorough assessment of the impact of similar tunnels, an explanation of the measures that will be taken to prevent perceptible vibration impacts, financial compensation for the compulsory purchase of subsoil, and a legally binding promise that HS2 will be permanently responsible for resolving any related settlement or subsidence issues”.
Ms Jackson pressed Ms Greening on how her constituents should make representations should they have concerns on these issues, and the Secretary of State for Transport reassured her that she would be writing to everyone directly affected by HS2 to ensure they will have all the details required for understanding this process and how it will work.
Ms Jackson has always supported HS2 but is also keen to ensure that her concerned constituents who will have the tunnel directly passing underneath their properties should understand the measures being put in place.
In response to the consultation that was carried out, there have been several changes implemented to the route including putting more of it underground out of sight, cutting deeper to avoid environmental and noise impacts and to reduce impact to the areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
