We have just received an update from the Metropolitan Police about their five-year Environmental Strategy, which includes objectives and targets to co-ordinate the activities of Safer Neighbourhoods teams to tackle such issues, when they are prioritised by the local community.

The MPS also produces an annual Enviornmental Report with the Metropolitan Police Authoirty (MPA) which covers various achievmnets and initiaitives undertaken by the MPS that deal with the environment. Key points from the 2006 / 2007 report include:

  • Office waste recycling is now 29% (up from 9% in 2004/2005)
  • Carbon emissions from air travel have decreased 26% on the previous year
  • Building energy consumption has decreased by 11% on 2005/2006 (4% when adjusting for weather variations) which has resulted in a 7.5% decrease in building carbon emissions
  • Water consumption has decreaed by 18.4% on 2005/2006 due to voluntary participation in the hosepipe ban, works to leaking water mains and modernisation of toilet and shower facilities.
