British Gas recognises that it has been a tough winter for a lot of families and that many families are struggling to pay their bills. They have therefore announced a package to provide an extra £37 million of support for low income households.

This means that vulnerable customers who are in receipt of Essentials Discounted Social Tariffs may be able to receive a rebate. Furthermore, certain customers may be eligible to apply for one-off grants if they find themselves in debt.

Recently British Gas customers were used to carry out research by the Centre for Economic and Business Research into efficiency measures. It found that in 2010 British Gas customers have seen their underlying gas consumption decline by 22.2% in the last five years, inclkuding 5.3% in the last year alone. Most of this was a result of energy efficiency measures. This saved a total of £1.1billion from their gas bills, on average a saving of £322 off household's gas bills.

Glenda would like to urge her constituents to look into getting insulation to help reduce their bills and help the environment British Gas Duel Fuel customers are now eligible for free insulation, as are those over 70 or on income or disability related benefits.
