   Constituency Crime in 2007

Met PoliceWe have just received an update on the situation of crime in Camden. The Metropolitan Police released some figures in December 2007 which indicate that overall the crime rate around Camden is on the decrease, including all types of hate crime, which are down compared with this time last year.  However, there has been a noticable increase in gun-enabled crime which has raised by 7.1% (140 offences) since last year.  This reflects a national increase in guncrime, and highlights the importance of raising awareness of the situation and encouraging people to hand over illegal weapons.

The latest crime figures for Camden show the following:

  • There have been 32,000 fewer crimes in the last seven months, compared with the same period in 2006 / 2007.
  • The robbery rate for the year to date is 17% lower than last year, and has not been as low as this point since 1999/2000.
  • Motor vehicle crime declined by over 8% and theft of motor vehicles is down 7.4%.
  • Trident gun crime is down by 5%.
  • Reported rape offences are 16.9% lower than last year.

The safer neighbourhoods online survery is designed to capture Londoners everyday concerns about local crime and disorder issues.  This information will then be fed directly to the local Safer Neighbourhoods team.  It will provide a valuable means of communications between members of the public and their local neighbourhood team.  To take part in the survey, click on the link:
