                           <description><![CDATA[The Friends of Hampstead Cemetry are holding a 'STREET LIFE' photo competition again this year, and Glenda would like to encourage her constituents to join in. The exhitbition will be in the Lodge at the Cemetry on the 3 and 4th of July. Glenda attended last year's exhibition and was very impressed with the photo entries, some of which were taken using mobile phones. The entries are judged by content rather than image quality.                            <description><![CDATA[We have had a letter this week from Joan Ruddock MP, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, informing us that the Warm Front Scheme is undergoing several improvements effective immediately. The Warm Front scheme was introduced in 2000 and has helped almost 2 million households vulnerable to fuel poverty with a range of heating, insulation and other energy efficiency measures. Eaga will manage the Scheme until the 31st March 2011, the end of the current spending period. The significant improvements include changes to the levels of grant available to householders.                            <title><![CDATA[October - International Walk to School Month]]></title>
                           <description><![CDATA[October is the
International Walk to School month, and pupils across the UK will
be encouraged to explore the health benefits of regular walking.
Only one-third of boys and girls aged 2 - 11 achieve the
recommended level of activity beneficial to their health through
activity undertaken outside of school (Health Survey for England
2002). This campaign will make a big impact not only on the health of
children, but also on pollution and congestion levels, thereby
greatly reducing a household's carbon emissions, and ultimately
doing something positive to stop Climate Change. We hope that our

                           <title><![CDATA[4 Secure Stations in Hampstead and Highgate]]></title>
                           <description><![CDATA[We would like to contratulate
the following stations for being accredited under the Secure
Stations Scheme: Hampstead Heath
Kilburn High Road
South Hampstead
West Hampstead These stations have been working closed with the british
Transport Police and other local partners to implement security
measures. They now reach national standards in station, passenger
and staff security, and will remain accredited for two years, after
which a further application is made for the

                           <title><![CDATA[New Fleet of Thameslink Trains]]></title>
                           <description><![CDATA[The
Department for Transport has announced that they have started the
procurement process for a new fleet of trains for the Thameslink
Programme. The new trains will be a step forward in design and will
be consistent with the department's Technical Strategy, in
particular the objective of having lighter vehicles that will be
more energy efficient and have less impact on the track, with a
consequent saving in maintenance costs. The new trains will be introduced in 2012, and will run at a
frequencuy of 24 trains an hour through central London by the end

                           <description><![CDATA[We have had a letter this week from Ed Balls MP, the Secretary of State for the Department of Children, Schools and Families, announcing that Camden has been selected to be one of the first wave of the 20 play Pathfinders that will start this April. We will receive capital funding of around £2 million (weighted by child population, deprivation and taking into account regional variations in building costs) over 3 years to develop around 28 pubic play areas, including building entirely new sites if this emerges as a key need identified by the local community.                            <title><![CDATA[Latest Metropolitan Police Environmental Update]]></title>
                           <description><![CDATA[We have just received an update from the Metropolitan Police about their five-year Environmental Strategy, which includes objectives and targets to co-ordinate the activities of Safer Neighbourhoods teams to tackle such issues, when they are prioritised by the local community.
 The MPS also produces an annual Enviornmental Report with the Metropolitan Police Authoirty (MPA) which covers various achievmnets and initiaitives undertaken by the MPS that deal with the environment. Key points from the 2006 / 2007 report include:

                           <title><![CDATA[Hampstead to Benefit from Access for All]]></title>
                           <description><![CDATA[The Department for Transport has announced that the new Access for All scheme is providing an extra £35m per year from 2008 until 2015 to enable provision of an obstacle free, accessible route to and between platforms at stations. The investment means that this money will be ring-fenced to help a total of 92 stations in England and Wales, and 8 in Scotland to be targetted for Access All funding.

                           <title><![CDATA[Network Rail Improvements]]></title>
                           <description><![CDATA[We have received notification from Network Rail that there are planned works in our constituency later this year as part of a wider project to upgrade the North London Line Railway. This is a £300m scheme to be delivered by Network Rail as part of the Olympic Delivery Authority's transport plans for 2012. It will enable more frequent and longer trains by the end of 2011 on the following London overground lines:

                           <title><![CDATA[2007 Secondary School Achievement Tables]]></title>
                           <description><![CDATA[The 2007 Secondary school achievement tables (Key Stage 4) were published on 10th January 08. These reflect GCSE and equivalent results for all maintained secondary schools, CTCs, Academies and independent secondary schools. This year's tables include a new science indicator showing the percentage of students who achieve at least two A*s in GCSE science.

                           <title><![CDATA[Increase in Budget for Primary Care Trusts]]></title>
                           <description><![CDATA[The Department of Health has announced its revenue allocations to Primary Care Trusts for 2008 - 2009. All PCTs will receive an increase of 5.5%, a total cash increase of £3.8 billion, bringing to total revenue allocations to £74 billion. 82% of the total NHS revenue budget will be issued direct to PCTs compared to 72% in 1996 - 1997.  Overall, the Department of Health has trebled investments in the NHS since 1997 and this anouncement puts further resources into local communities.                            <title><![CDATA[2007 Primary School Achievement and Attainment Tables]]></title>
                           <description><![CDATA[We have been informed by Rt Hon Ed Balls MP, the Secretary of State, that the 2007 Primary School (Key Stage 2) Achievement and Attainment Tables were published on 6th December 07.
 The Tables show the Key stage 2 results for each state primary school. This year's tables include a new KS1-KS2 'contextual value added' measure. This measure enables comparison of the progress made by pupils from the end of KS1 to the end of KS2, but it also allows for factors which are outside the school's control (such as gender, mobility and levels of deprivation).                            <title><![CDATA[Half Price Bus and Tram Travel]]></title>
                           <description><![CDATA[The Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, has launched a scheme which means that up to 250,000 of the least-well-off Londoners can now benefit from half price bus and tram travel. The initiative entitles all Londoners on Income Support to receive half-price bus and tram travel, including lone parents, carers, long-term sick people and disabled people. These means that those Londoners on the lowest income will pay 45p for a single bus journey, which is less than a quarter of the £2 cash fare.

                           <title><![CDATA[Hampstead Heath Station]]></title>
                           <description><![CDATA[We have been informed recently that Hampstead Heath station is to be moved from Zone 3 to Zone 2 effective from this month (January 08). This will reduce many local fares, and will restore the station to the zone it was in prior to privitisation in 1996. The decision will be welcomed by our constituents for whom the existing zone of the station has been an issue of some significance since the changes of over a decade ago.
