The Post Office
announced in a document that was launched on 19th February that it will be closing three post offices in Hampstead and Highgate. This comes as part of a larger move to close 171 post offices across
London in an attempt to cut costs and reduce the accruing debt of Royal Mail.
As a constituency we have already lost the sub post office on Haverstock Hill, and Glenda comments that "as a result, the offices at both Hampstead Village and Finchley Road have increased queues
and decreased services, and the closures of England's lane South End and High Ghigh Street which make this situation infinitely worse". The proposals will cause real damange both socially and
economcally, and will disadvante some of the most vulnerable people in our community, those who are elderly, disabled and families with small children. Moreover, it will affect small but
important businesses in the area.
The consultation lasts only six weeks and will close on April 2nd, in contast to what is deemed to be best practice - nearly 12 weeks. We would urge you to contact us to make your opinions known.
We have already written to the Post Office to urge them to reconsider, and we have copied our letter to Postwatch.
